Character Information
Name: Jusis Albarea
Canon: Trails of Cold Steel
Canon Point: Immediately pre Trails of Cold Steel III
Age: 20
History: Wiki 1, Wiki 2

Personality:
The first impression most people get of Jusis Albarea is that he is haughty and disinterested in others. Commoners who believe the worst of nobles can easily believe the worst of him, as Jusis doesn't really seem to have much of an interest in smoothing over bad first impressions; if anything, he's prone to making them worse before he makes them better, snarkily commenting on the behavior of those who snap to the "a noble who hates everyone beneath him" judgement rather than bothering to actively try to prove them wrong. While he is rather proud and anti-social, Jusis isn't so haughty as people first assume - or it isn't in the ways that they assume. Jusis has no particular belief that nobles are "better" than commoners or deserve more than them: his mother was a commoner herself, and in fact Jusis tends to piss off other nobles just as often as he infuriates commoners. The problem is that he doesn't like anyone currying favor with him, high or lowborn, and he doesn't hold back from stating frankly when he thinks someone is being a fool. Jusis returns courtesy for courtesy in general (the exception being when he thinks someone is being falsely courteous for profit) and returns rudeness with haughty snark. As such, how someone approaches him has a large impact on how they will later view him. Assuming he will be an asshole just because he's a noble will in fact net you a snarky, contentious version of himself; being less on the attack, however, will get his more neutral version. Respect for respect.

Far from believing that nobles are simply owed things for being nobles, Jusis has a strong believe in Noblesse Oblige - which means that he believes nobility extends beyond the privileges and entitlements granted to the nobility and firmly thinks that a proper noble should also be responsible and do their best for their people. Many times over the course of the first two games he takes responsibility for things he hasn't strictly done or hasn't had any impact on. In the first game he apologizes for his family's provincial army behaving poorly towards Rean and the others, and when his father's soldiers lock up one of his classmates on his father's orders Jusis escapes his family manor to go assist said classmate despite not getting along with him at all, because his sense of right and wrong goes beyond personal feelings and what those with more authority than him think he ought to be doing. In the second game he is under the influence of his father who is becoming increasingly a tyrant to his people, and tells Rean and the others he can't leave with them...then says if Rean beats him in a race, he will only then. Despite making Rean go through all these loops, Jusis had already written his father saying he was leaving, having planned to go with his classmates from the start as that was what he had settled on as being right and the best for his people. He also cuts his time at Thors short in order to take over as acting duke of his family's land when his father is imprisoned and his brother is otherwise occupied, despite loving his time at Thors.

For all that he's haughty and snarky and utterly responsible, Jusis has other sides, too. He can be awkward with others despite usually coming off as composed. This most often shows around his father and brother, whose acceptance and affection he does want (though he stands on his own more and more as his time with Class VII progresses) and in situations where he isn't certain what to do due to his relatively sheltered upbringing as a noble's son. While Jusis is rarely left hesitating for long, those moments do happen and show that he has very real concerns about right and wrong and on how others perceive him (sometimes; not with everyone, since for many people he genuinely doesn't care how they see him). He's often dismissive even when he doesn't mean to be, as well, with Rean even noting that when Jusis is being well-meaning he sometimes does it in a "cold, off-putting Jusis-way". He does tend to mean well and think of others, but it can be hard to see unless you're willing to actually look at what he's doing separate from his sort of stuffy and occasionally rude words.

It shouldn't be surprising, then, that his classmates are always startled when Jusis does get along well with others. In addition to being good with horses Jusis seems to get along well with most children (who seem to flock to him) and also is well-liked by almost all the common people of Bareahard. Even schoolmates who disliked him initially - such as Paula - eventually warm up to him, although he remains at odds with Machias Regnitz throughout the first two games (although the two spend a good deal of their idle time arguing or crossing paths). Those who dislike him tend to see his dismissive, snarky attitude and either never come to see the rest of him or ignore the rest of him. That part is true, of course, but Jusis is also a hard-working and responsible young man who always gives his all to any task he decides to take up, and who carefully thinks about those around him even if he isn't always great at acting on those thoughts or getting them across in ways that aren't halfway snide.
Abilities & Skills:
• SWORDSMANSHIP/COMBAT: Jusis specializes in the blade, but he's a very competent fighter overall. He's got his sword, so he should be just fine when it comes to self defense even without the monster traits he'll be getting.

• CRAFTS: Fancy special fighting moves, basically. Jusis's are centered around swordsmanship, and presumably any of the solely physical and not-magical ones would still work fine as it's just "fancy special moves".

• ARTS: Basically black and white magic which can be used if the appropriate battle orbments are equipped. Obviously useless in Aefenglom, but it's worth noting that Jusis is familiar with this form of magic and might have an interest in what witches get up to.

• HORSES: Jusis is a huge fan of horses, and he's good at handling and caring for them...and also at riding them. He was a member of the riding club during his school days, and occasionally seems to prefer horses to people.
Inventory:
Clothes
• Sword
• ARCUS unit
Choice: Monster, Vampire
Reason: Vampires are a personal favorite, and Jusis having to come to terms with a need to feed on blood just seems fun to me, along with the other quirks of the class.
